Postby andysinnh » Sat May 28, 2011 6:41 pm

Below find the press release outlining the openings we have for the Merrimack School District Budget Committee for the upcoming budget year. One opening is to replace George Markwell, who was elected to the school board this year. The other opening is to replace Bill Boyd, who tendered his resignation this past week, due to his election to the Town Council this year. See the release for details on how to indicate if you have interest.

Hi, everyone. Just thought I'd close the loop on this one. We had 3 residents send letters of interest to the commmittee, and last evening we held our meeting where we interviewed/discussed all 3 candidates, and selected the two that would fill the open seats through the remainder of the budget year.

The committee voted to have Roy Swonger and Rick Barnes to fill those seats - both were former members of the budget committee from previous years. We had a third resident - Allyson Steixner, a former member of the school space needs committee - send a letter of interest and talk with us last evening, but she was not selected by the members to fill one of the open seats. I'd like to personally thank Allyson for putting her name out there and really encourage her to consider putting her name on the ballot for one of our 6 open seats (as of today) in the April 2012 election - she'd be a great addition to the committee! In terms of Roy and Rick, the majority of the committee felt their experience would be valuable this year as we head into a likely difficult budget season, given the continued economic situation we're facing in town and the state. They will serve until the April 2012 elections.

For details of the meeting, look for the replay on local channel 21 within the next few days.
