Pam, you're scenario assumes that taxes have ALWAYS been too high. While some may think that, it wasn't until the last 4 years that taxes have doubled or even tripped for many of us.


Rick, thanks for making that point. I have been trying to get people to understand that this big jump in taxes was not becuase spending went way up 7 to 10 years ago, but becuase of the other 2 legs of the chair, the tax pie and state aid.

You said that your taxes doubled or tripled. I have to assume that this happened about the time you moved to Merrimack? If so this is exactly what happened to me in 1989. When we bought our house we looked at the owners last year bill and it was about 1500 dollars. After moving in we got our first bill and it was over 3000! Oddly enough this was a result of Merrimack losing all of it's state aid back then and a big shift in the tax pie! It was a very un- welcomed surprise after planning our budget when we purchased the house, so I know how you feel.
