Congresswoman Shea-Porter supports healthcare for NH vets

Postby RD » Sat Aug 02, 2008 11:16 am

On Tuesday, Congresswoman Shea-Porter introduced legislation requiring the Veterans Administration to provide New Hampshire veterans with the same services that veterans in other states receive at their full-service hospitals. Her bill, "The Veterans Equity Health Act," will ensure that veterans in each of the 48 contiguous states have access to at least one full-service hospital of the Veterans Health Administration or receive comparable services provided by contract.

Thank you Congresswoman Shea-Porter!

So she''s "pretending" to care about the military now that she might lose (deservedly so) her congressional seat? When has she ever cared about the troops? I'm sure she too will be in favor of offshore drilling by next week when her numbers look bad.

As the daughter of a veteran, and a wife of a veteran, I'm pretty sure she's not pretending.

Thank you Congresswoman Shea-Porter!

Don't you think she should have responded to this group?

Oh look - her interest in supporting anything for the military only began in January 2008.

Shea-Porter does not care for Vets. She took money from those who would slander our military with an ad like this. Shame on you Shea-Porter, we need to remove the likes of you from Washington.

From the Union leader.
Character in question: Hodes, Shea-Porter and Gen. Petraeus

Thursday, Sep. 13, 2007

ON MONDAY, Moveon.org, the left-wing political advocacy group, ran a full-page ad in The New York Times that called Gen. David Petraeus a liar, labeled him "General Betray Us" and asserted that he was "cooking the books for the White House."

The ad went well beyond the bounds of respectable political discourse. For that reason, it was roundly criticized by both Republicans and Democrats. Except, we haven't heard a peep of criticism from New Hampshire's two anti-war Democratic members of Congress, Reps. Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter, both of whom have benefitted from Moveon.org's assistance.

Hodes received $5,000 from Moveon.org in 2006. The organization also spent $1,749 in indirect expenditures to support Hodes that year and $143,266 to oppose Hodes' opponent, Rep. Charlie Bass.

Shea-Porter received no direct contributions from Moveon.org in 2006, but this year she has taken $17,860.51 in forwarded earmarked contributions bundled by the organization.

Both Hodes and Shea-Porter dismissed Gen. Petraeus' testimony this week. Both said they disagreed with his assessment of the situation in Iraq. But why?

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter also helped pass other important legislation. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, she helped pass legislation which will provide vital resources to our nation’s veterans, as well as secured important funding for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill passed the House 409 to 4.

Among the provisions Shea-Porter secured in the legislation were $9.98 million to construct the Consolidated Global Submarine Component Facility, the Navy’s warehousing center for submarine components, and $1.45 million for the Waterfront Support Facility that will support the repair of Virginia-class submarines at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

“The shipyard is a source of great pride,” said Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter. “This legislation will ensure our shipyard remains on the cutting edge and remains the best in the Fleet.”

The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill also:

  • Rejects the President’s proposal to cut the Department of Veterans Affairs construction by $788 million, so that the Department has the resources it needs to address buildings that have fallen into disrepair;
  • Addresses the critical needs facing veterans medical care as soldiers return from Iraq and Afghanistan, building on the historic increases provided last year;
    Increases enrollment of Priority 8 veterans by 10 percent, ensuring that we keep our commitment to all veterans;
  • Provides veterans with advanced prosthetics;
  • Raises mileage reimbursements for veterans traveling to VA Hospitals; and
  • Makes substantial increases to mental health and substance abuse treatment.

“There is nothing more important than standing up for our veterans,” said Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter. “This legislation will help ensure our men and women in uniform receive the care they need and deserve.”

Thank you Congresswoman Shea-Porter!

That was the point I was making. Look at the dates on this bill. If this was a bill she voted for when she was first in office it would be different, but this bill just passed the House yesterday!

Carol promised Howie Howe vouchers so vets could get decent care. Where are the vouchers? All I've seen from her is socialized medicine and posturing.

She's a fraud.

Carol Shea-Porter voted to adjourn the US House of Representatives for a two week Thanksgiving recess, blatantly neglecting to pass a critical housing, health care and benefits bill for our nation's veterans and troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. (House Roll Call 1113)

Shea-Porter put partisan politics above the needs of troops and commanders on the ground by voting for a Democrat-sponsored bill mandating extension of troop deployments overseas. (House Roll Call 795)

Shea-Porter voted yet again in lock-step with the Democrat leadership to block a motion aimed at protecting housing for America's homeless and disabled veterans. (House Roll Call 714)

Shea-Porter voted for the Pelosi-Murtha "slow bleed" strategy to choke-off funding for American troops in harm's way. (House Roll Call 186)

Shea-Porter and her Democrat leadership in Washington left town on Veterans Day weekend without passing a vital veterans' housing, healthcare and benefits bill.

Can you please give me at least a clue how accepting donations from moveon.org (a group that just wants us to get out of Iraq) has anything to do with how much she cares for vets?

Moveon.org mocked our military; I posted the ad from the NYTs so you can see for yourself. For Shea-Porter to be strongly associated with a group like moveon.org says a great deal about her feelings towards our military. I think that ad was vile!

Shea-Porter received $17,860.51 In Forwarded Earmarked Contributions From MoveOn.org.
(Federal Election Commission, http://www.fec.gov, Accessed September 10, 2007)

Earlier This Year, Shea-Porter Welcomed MoveOn.org Protesters With Open Arms, Serving Them Hot Apple Cider. “Anti-war protesters descended upon Rep. Carol Shea-Porter's downtown office yesterday in a demon-stration that couldn't have been more different from similar ones in past months. Last May, six anti-war protesters were arrested for refusing to leave the same office, then occupied by former Rep. Jeb Bradley. Yesterday, protesters were given hot apple cider and welcomed with open arms. . . . ‘For once, instead of sneering and cursing the man inside, we're having a love-in,’ said Jim Sconyers of Dover, who organized yesterday's demonstration through MoveOn.org.”

I think the posting three of us have posted speaks about her "alleged" caring for military speaks for themselves.
