Ice Dam Removal

Postby Debra Huffman » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:56 am

With the amount of snow we've had this year I thought some of you might be having an ice dam problem. If so, I recommend calling Mike Thibodeau, 897-5942 (he's in Merrimack so that must be a cell number). His company name is Lifetime Energy Exteriors. We had an ice dam problem and he and his crew came out in the snow to heat and carefully chip away the ice, then installed roof-deicer wire (those little triangles you see on people's roofs).

He installed new windows for us last year, and he did a good job of that too.

I don't know exactly because we rolled it into the cost of several other repairs and improvements we were having him do. Sorry, can't help with cost estimate. Once you have the ice removed, if you want to install the wire yourself it looks like a pretty easy job. You can buy the wire at Home Depot (probably Lowes too, didn't check), but we bought ours at County Stores in Milford because they had the length we needed. The 240' wire kit more than covered a 76' roof length and cost somewhere around $150.
