changes coming with the polling place at the HIgh School

we are establishing handicap/elderly parking at the end of the parking lot closest to the gym so that
those who need it can park there and go in the back door to the gym

the ones in front are also useable and the drivers ed spaces will be marked as handicapped as well

let anyone you know who might need to look for these spaces

Lynn:

Good of you to start this thread. I might suggest that with many who are not familiar with the high school that you erect a sign ABOVE the door the that voters should use to enter the building. Perhaps the sign could say "Voter Entrance". Likely you will need one for the rear entrance for the voters who need handicap access. The doors in the back of the high school can be confusing.

And many thanks to the Town Council and School Board for getting this worked out as to location.

We need a diagram of the parking/high school because 'back door of gym' isn't on the back of the school.

I expect some people are going to want to drive down that driveway (the wrong way).

If we know the 'flow' inside the gym that will help too. Unlike JMUES it seems we could have a clear 'in/out' for voters.

general direction

as you face the school
the voter entrance is the one on the right.
you enter the building, go down the ramp.
At the bottom of the ramp is teh cafeteria
this will be the location of the new voter registration tables
AND
for anyone who does not have an ID they will have to get in a line here to fill out
the challenged voter affidavit that will need to be shown to the ballor inspectors to get a ballot

once you have that or if you already have an ID you can proceed down the hall to thye gym

there will be 2 entrances A-M and N-Z
go into the appropriate one - find your table and show the ballot inspector your ID or affidavit
(if you snuck past the lobby without - you will have to go back out and get)

take your ballot, mark the appropriate names and proceed to the back of the gym
( which is the right side of the school as you look at it from the front.
deposit your ballot in the box and exit thru the door right there. so you will leave the building
and find you want back to the front via the side driveway. short walk

Parking:
as you come in the driveway by the tennis courts and JMUES field. there are parking lots
along the right side of the drive. then as you get close to the school there is a big lot on the left.
any of those lots are available for parking.

elderly/handicapped parking is right in front of the school and as you come in the drive,
the lot on the right at the farthest in, closest to the school will have the end spots
designated for those voters and the exit door from voting is accessable for those
people to come in directly to the gym.

All will have signs

the driveway around the school will not be accessable

Some of us don't even know where the high school gym is other than "somewhere at the high school" and will be looking for the hole through the political signs to get there.

[edited to add] And those some of us should have read all the posts before replying. :-)

political campaigns will be restricted to the grass area to the left of the voting entrance
and before you ask - campaign signs must have a responsible individual in attendance
but they do not need to be held, theny can be posted for instance on a chair.
They should not be posted on cars parked in the election parking area, unless the car
belongs to a voter who is currently in the process of voting and will be removed when
the voter has completed voting.

absentee ballots are not available yet, but if you will be out of town
or disabled you can request them from the town clerk and they will be
mailed as soon as they are available.

for those of you asking
the ballot is printed
the democrats are in column 1, republicans in column 2 and others in column 3

state rep races in each column are in true alphabetical order
