MVD Annual Meeting was last night

24 registered voters showed up (five of which were on the board)

Everyone that ran, won - Congratulations.

Every article passed - with article 4/5 being amended on the floor to zero dollars. This was due to the MVD most likely not getting any stimulus monies.

http://www.Merrimackvotes.org has been updated with the details.

All the info is at home - I'll have to check but I believe the last article was a wording change on the bylaws.

Special Election

Postby Brian McCarthy » Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:20 am

I know somewhere here there is another post about the School District Special Election, but I could not find it quickly.

I have put links to the SD and Town site info on this at:

http://www.merrimackvotes.org

The 'friends' list was also used to inform people of the election next Tuesday.

[ edit ]

I have added a link to the Town Manager's Update video where the topic is discussed with the Fire Chief.

[ end edit ]

What is the urgency behind this special election? It's the first I have heard of it and I'm sure many people won't ever hear about it. I bet voter turnout won't reach 1,000

I was told that since the Fire Dept is applying for a grant to pay for a good portion of this
that the land needs to be in the Towns name.

I can't imagine anyone having a big problem transferring title for these 3 acres from the school to the town
it still belongs to the tax payers

Here's the short thread in the School Topics area where we talked about it. Tim Tenhave chimed in with some info... viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5672

Lynn has it correct. The issue has to do with the grants that are being applied for which will make this much-overdue replacement of the South Fire Station a reality. There was a hope that the it was going to be ready for last year's election but the requirements of posting, and the final agreement details were not finalized.

This is a screen capture from the GIS website of the area in question. As you can see, the expansion of Continental Blvd many years ago divided the SD parcel.

The area in pink is Thortons Ferry School.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know we had approved buiding a new fire house.

Granted I was pretty sick last spring so maybe I missed this information.
