Assuming it does not diminish area property values, the more WIMAX infrastructure the better. For "wired" the town and state missed out on FIOS. I think the town should welcome this. Its important to business and residents.

I have asked the Town Manager to ask the Assessor if they can provide information on property value impacts for tonight's hearing.

Any results? I'd love to have a real alternative to the $65/month broadband from Comcast.

No results. Matter still not formally proposed to town. Tower developer was going to undertake further review of proposal based on the comments received at the hearing.

Comcast is an investor in Clearwire the company looking to put up the tower. In fact they've invested a billion dollars in it.

So I'm not so sure how much of an alternative they would be. I asked a Comcast representaive about Clearwire and he indicated the company was going to be competing with Verizon Wireless and AT&T more then Comcast.

Comcasts answer makes perfect sense.

Wireless is dominated by the RBOCs and their children, so that is who the direct competition for Clearwire would be.

Wired, especially for the TV/Phone/Broadband combo is mainly dominated by the cable companies like Comcast.
There is some RBOC overlap with FIOS, DSL and the like on the packages but they are still very light in the TV provider segment.

They are overlapping more and more as time goes on, but right now things are still pretty firmly segmented.
