So, here we are now in mid July 2010 and the drainage project in Woodland Park has yet to break ground.

As a matter of fact, I haven't seen any activity yet.

I was told it would begin after the start of the new fiscal year ( 1 July) - after we experienced more than one delay over the past couple of years.

So can someone say when - within a year or two, the project in my neighborhood will be carried out

Plans were underway for Tinker Road when I moved to Merrimack in 1999. When I left in 2005 it still hadn't been done. I believe it was finally done around 2007. So based on my experience you may be looking at a 7-8 year wait.

If you caught the last Council meeting, the Town Manager gave an update on the status of the Woodland Park and Souhegan/Currier projects. Both projects, will begin soon and be completed in this budget year. Instead of idle musings from the keyboard, just pick up the phone and call the the Town Manager or the Public Works Director and make a direct inquiry. If you can't stand the thought of a direct conversation, they have e-mail.

From this week's Town Manger's Report which is posted on the front pager of the town web site

• Town Wide Street Paving. Continental Paving is progressing with the Town wide 2010 paving program. To date, 13 roads have been shimmed and had drainage and water structures raised. Badly deteriorated sections of Hilton Drive and Woodridge Road have been repaired through the efforts of the Contractor and Town DPW forces. All or part of 25 roads are scheduled for paving this year. Work is scheduled to continue next week. The completion date for the program is October 1, 2010.

• Woodland Drive Drainage Improvements: The Woodland Drive drainage project plans have been finalized and the project will be going out to bid on July 16th. Substantial completion of the project is expected by late fall of this year.

• Souhegan Currier Drainage Improvements: Final plans are being completed and should be delivered to the DPW by July 20. This project should be substantially complete by late fall of this year.

• Naticook Drainage Project. The Naticook Drainage Project is currently in design. DPW received approval from the Conservation Commission to discharge stormwater into Horse Hill Preserve. Completion is scheduled to occur this fall.

• Steep Street Drainage Project. DPW has submitted to the NHDES 3 alternative plans for site remediation in this area near the Souhegan River. Highway forces are expected to complete the project based on what alternative is selected by the DES.

• Town Center Sidewalks. Easements for the DW Highway sidewalk project have been acquired. The Conservation Commission approved the project on July 12. The DPW will present this plan to the Planning Board on July 20 (no approval needed). Federal Highway is currently reviewing this project and the NHDES is reviewing the Shoreline Protection Permit which was recently submitted. Completion is scheduled to occur this fall.

• Turkey Hill Road Bridge. The Turkey Hill Road Bridge project is currently under review by the Federal Highway Administration. This project will go out to bid immediately after the FHA review is completed and any concerns by this group are addressed. Substantial completion is scheduled to occur in late 2011.

• Manchester Street Bridge Replacement. The Manchester Bridge replacement project is still scheduled to begin construction this fall. The archeological and historical studies have been completed. Due to the limited historical and archeological significance of the site there will not need to be a public hearing on these matters.

• Wastewater Sludge Dewatering Upgrade. The Dewatering Upgrade project construction was awarded to Penta Construction and they anticipate starting the project in early August. Completion of the project is in late 2011.

I can't speak for any other projects but this one

We signed the easement papers earlier this week.

Substantial completion... What does that mean?? In my mind not completed...
