but Chelsea is on the hook to donate funds to build if we do since there is some sentiment that
we will need more/better access if/when they build. The South station has been considered inadequate
for some time by some people and is not considered expandable/upgradeable. So IF we need a new one
access would be better on Continental Blvd instead of Naticook. And if we can get some grant money
to pay for all or part it would make sense to get the land from the school transferred to the town
so that ducks are in a row for the grant money.

One can hope that Merrimack will get the grant. However, there is a lot of competition for this and its not safe to assume such grant will take place. When would the town know if this grant is awarded? How much is the grant for? Would this nullify Chelsea contribution and could that amount be used for another town purpose?

My read on this is that by voting for (and potentially approving) the transfer of the land to the town from the school district, it opens the door for many options to try and get the fire house built, including putting an article on the April ballot to see if the town would vote to raise funds should the grant fall short. If we waited to do the special election until April during normal voting, and then the grant wasn't achieved, there'd either be a special election later on, or it'd have to wait an additional year. Regardless, this will pave the way for various options...

One of the requirements to the final application for the grant(s) is that the applicant actually have a place to build.

I forget if there are multiple grants involved.

And I know it sounds like government, but you know, if a grant application requirement states that you must have a place to build this, it means at some time in the past some yahoo applied, and got a grant for some building, but couldn't build it because the had no place to build it

Mr Lynam gave me his email this evening at Candidates' Night, as posted to another thread:

I asked the Exchange Club if they would provide me with the questions that were not put forward (due to time) this evening. I then asked all the candidates if they would be willing to respond to those questions via email, for publication on MerrimackVotes.org. They all agreed so I'm working on the details and will be getting them out to MerrimackVotes shortly.

Note that the Exchange Club did not provide me with all of the questions written on the cards, only the ones they were going to put forward.

I would like to personally congratulate Martha in the library trustee race. While I would have liked to have won myself I know she wanted this a LOT more then I did. Honestly I put my name in more because I wanted to bring back the cardboard boat race then really wanting to be a trustee. From talking to her at candidates night and at the polls today it was very clear that she really wanted this position so I'm really happy for her. It would have been a fun position to hold but I can't say I feel bad being beaten out by someone who wanted it so bad. I am also more then willing to do anything the trustees need to bring back the race.

I'm very happy that Shannon won this year in the school board race. Thanks to everyone who voted for her (and for me).

Rick, what a wonderful post, very gracious and heart felt. You are a man of substance my friend. Send my congrats to Shannon. I hope she and Chris and join with Jenn to be an activist board that will look to save us money. I hope they check my posts on privatization. We have long been outvoted by a liberal majority but hopefully this board will try new ideas. Education is not all about money, if it was, every kid in the DC schools would be doctors and lawyers.
